When Christ came to this world it was the lowest time of God’s people. They had been under the rule of Gentile nations for 540 years.
Since the captivity of Babylon they had not known a time period when they were autonomous in their rule.
There had not been a prophet for 400 years and this had left the people with no open vision. So who was looking for Messiah? Those who were looking, what Messiah were they looking for?
Only a small remnant at Christ’s first coming were looking for Messiah with a true heart. We read of Elizabeth and Zacharias, Mary and Joseph; the unusual message to the shepherds; Simeon and Anna, and the Magi from the East. But we do not read of others by name or reference who were in heart and posture looking for the Lord.
We must as ourselves these same questions today as we look for the Second Coming of Christ.
Who is looking for Christ? What Christ are they looking for?
In this message, we look at the Biblical Jesus we are to be looking and longing for today.
